Now I get a lot of people asking me ‘So you write music for tv shows do you? Well, I watch tv, so what shows have you written music for?’
I follow up with ‘Glad you asked, thanks for taking an interest in what I do for a living. I mostly write music for shows in America. Have you ever heard of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory?’ (listener shakes head)
‘oh, ok, well it’s a show about a skateboarder who earns a lot of money & has his own indoor skate park & ……. well, it’s on MTV’ (listener has a vague look on their face & nods slowly)
‘I’ve also had music featured in the show ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ (Honey What What?)
‘umm, how about the People’s Choice Awards?’ (listener shrugs shoulders)
‘It airs every year on CBS & has over 10 millions viewers in America. My name was even in the credits once…. Although I had to pause the show at precisely the right nano second to see it’ (listener starts looking for an exit out of the conversation).
Well, now I can eliminate all of the awkwardness out of the conversation & start it with this.
I’ve written music that got used in The X Factor.
Boom. Instant knowledge of show. Conversation carries on winningly, there’s even a witty anecdote about Hillbilly Handfishin’ & My Big Redneck Wedding, but you’ll have to ask me about that next time you see me to hear it.
Check out the vid below to hear me getting my gangster on & busting out some hip hop for The X Factor. (The music in the background is me, I didn’t audition for the X Factor, I am neither a singer or rapper).
